Educational Outreach of Shelby County Historical Society
|
Our historical society reaches out to the youth in our schools and communities. One way we share our love of history is through our annual History Camp. The second out reach program started this year with our new Historical Society Intern Course taught by John Grahm, a retired Shelby County teacher.
|
The Historical Society worked with Shelby County Public Schools to offer the internship to high school seniors for two credit hours of course work.
Students studied the following topics: Country Stores, African American History, County Farms, County Schools, Historical sites, and Research. This year first class of interns were Austin Dupre, Oliva Sherrod, and Kathryn Harden. Austin Dupre and Oliva are seniors at Martha layne Collins High School and Kathryn is a senior at Shelby County High School. Click on the topics links above in red to see what students have been learning about during the course of the year. |
History Camp 2011

This marked our fourth Summer History Camp and the focus was on World War II, 1941-1945.
Thanks to our new camp director, Michelle DeEsch it was a great success! Thank you sponsors, adults, teens, parents and campers. You have given Shelby County a lasting memory…..you have created a bit of history. |
